Normandy is a very large region. From Mont Saint Michel and the Cotentin, the cliffs at Etretat and Dieppe, one can travel hundreds of kilometres along the sea, without ever leaving Normandy.
Inland, the wooded landscape characteristic of Normandy is present almost everywhere. Normandy is a traditional agriculture land, synonymous with delicacies such as cheese (Camembert, Pont l'Eveque), cider and ... Calvados.
Along the coast, is the kingdom of seafood and fish. Each village has its (his) restaurant (s) proposing a list of fresh produce from the sea.
The places of interest to visit are numerous and important. The Mont Saint Michel is certainly the best known. Nearby cities Granville and Avranches are fortified. Farther north and east, the landing beaches in June 1944 and the Memorial de Caen are visited by many American tourists returning to the scene of operations where their parents or grandparents fought. The Bayeux tapestry tells the story of William the Conqueror and the conquest of England. The prestigious town of Deauville, the port and restaurants of Trouville, the charming town of Honfleur and its picturesque old habour are other places unavoidable south-west of the Seine and Le Havre. On the other side of the Seine, the shoreline changes and rises above impressive chalk cliffs of the most well-known are the cliffs at Etretat. The fishing harbours of Fécamp and Dieppe are the strengths of this region.
