The Limousin region comprises 3 departements (Corrèze, Creuse and Haute-Vienne) with a total of 747 towns and villages. 712 500 inhabitants live in Limousin. This means a density of 42 inhabitants only per square kilometer (average of 108 inhabitants for France).

Limousin is an old French province already mentioned by Julius Caesar. During the roman time Augustoritum was the regional capital city of Limousin which later will become Limoges.
